Education

I have a bachelor's degree in Social Psychology and Criminal Justice from UAB in Birmingham, Alabama in 2012. Also, I have a master's degree in Applied Sociology with a strong focus on Medical Sociology from UMBC in Baltimore, Maryland in 2014. Currently, I am completing my PhD in Criminology and Family Sociology at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.

Experience

I have previous experience as a teaching assistant (TA) from undergraduate and graduate school (i.e. about 9-10 classes), where I assisted professors in teaching, grading, and tutoring students. In addition, I have past experience with teaching my own undergraduate class. I have taught introduction to sociology in the past. I want to be a tutor because I love teaching and helping others learn something new and master a skill. I want to help others learn by providing them with resources that help to shape and mold their minds, self-confidence, and self-concepts when it comes to academics. I enjoy watching someone learn something new and become exposed to greater knowledge. Some relevant courses that I have taken in the past include all of the introductory level courses for every social science subject offered. Also, I have taken a lot of research methods and statistics courses in the math department and social science departments in undergraduate and graduate school. Some unique specialization courses that I have taken in my course of study include and are not limited to the following: victimology, criminality, abnormal psychology, psychology of memory, theory classes, cultural anthropology, developmental psychology, gender and the life course, social ties and family, social psychology, socialization, policing, neighborhoods and crime, social gerontology, history of medicine, chronic illness, mental illness and behavior, human sexuality, race/gender/crime, psychology and law, sociology of aging, adolescence, crime and the life course, intimate partner dyads/tryads, and many more classes. Other interesting things that I have participated in include serving as a big sister for 3 years at Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) in greater Birmingham, Alabama. Additionally, I worked at 2 hospitals in the past where I assisted nurses. I worked at Children's hospital in Birmingham, Alabama for 3 months and I worked at UAB hospital in Birmingham, Alabama for 7 years. Lastly, I am very big into community involvement or service. In the past I have helped out at soup kitchens, women's and children's shelters, homeless shelters, and other aftercare facilities for children at churches or other organizations. Also, I have worked with middle school and high school girls who have needed training in dance, colorguard, and/or cheerleading for tryouts or even practice squads (I was a cheerleader and dancer for 11 years).
